Chronic Pain of TMD Tied to Depression
People who suffer from chronic pain are more susceptible to depression, even depression that requires medication or therapy. Pain that continues past normal healing processes is considered chronic, and it exacts a mental and psychological toll on those who suffer from it. Temporomandibular joint disorder, or TMD is a leading cause of chronic pain in many people. Chronic pain of TMD tied to depression is a cause for concern for neuromuscular dentists diagnosing and treating TMD. The temporomandibular joint is a crossroads for several muscle groups, nerves, and blood vessels. Inflammation or damage to the joint can cause severe problems throughout the head and neck area.
